Condensed cold matter
(MFC)
Description
The thematic focus of the MFC axis, which currently includes seven permanent researchers, revolves around three research operations: Fundamental Measurements, Rydberg Atoms, and Sources of Cold Ions and Electrons. The team has undergone a profound renewal of its thematic focus, with significant experimental developments in the areas of cold molecules and frozen Rydberg gases. These two themes are pursued with experiments involving the manipulation and cooling of BaF molecules and spectroscopic and few-body interaction studies between Cs and Yb Rydberg atoms. However, the axis is also opening up to fundamental physics searches through laser manipulation of antihydrogen or a novel measurement technique for the electron electric dipole moment (eEDM).
